Beauty How-To: 5 Spring Hairstyles You'll Love From the Front and Back

  • Beauty How-To: 5 Spring Hairstyles You'll Love From the Front and Back

    The Slicked Knot

Created by hairstylist Luigi Murenu at Gucci. Step 1: Do a middle part, slicking in gel. Step 2: Make a pony at your nape, leaving out a one-inch section. Step 3: Pull the pony halfway through an elastic so you have a loop of hair with some leftover tail. Step 4: Wrap that tail, plus the one-inch section, around the loop and pin. Step 5: Pin in an extension (gel and flat-iron so it sticks up). A feather is cool too.

    • The Undone Bun

Created by Paul Hanlon at Marni. Step 1: Start with wet hair. Spritz in some beach spray, and blow-dry while roughing hair up with your fingers. Spray again. Step 2: Part hair to the side and pull back into a low, loose bun, leaving some pieces out (messy is good here). Step 3: Take any leftover pieces and wrap them around the bun. Step 4: Bobby-pin at the base to secure.

    • The Lush Halo

Created by Odile Gilbert at Cacharel. This one’s for superlong hair (or clip-in extensions). Step 1: Do a high pony. Step 2: Split tail into two sections. Step 3: Pin one section in a circle around the crown to create a halo. Step 4: Fold and flatten the other section so that it can tuck all around the inside of the halo with pins. Use a mirror to make sure you’ve covered the pony’s base.

    • The Half-Back

Created by Luigi Murenu at Pucci. This works on short hair too. Step 1: Flat-iron dry hair. Step 2: Spritz a brush with shine spray, and comb to tame flyaways. Step 3: Pull two-inch sections from the temples back with an elastic (or just with pins as far back as you can if your hair’s short—and then skip step 4). Step 4: Insert your pin of choice and weave a stick through.

    • The Swoosh

Created by James Pecis at Antonio Marras. Step 1: Create a low side part. Step 2: Take out a section along your front hairline. Step 3: Pull the rest of your hair into a side pony and braid it. Step 4: Twist the braid up and over the top of your head, and pin in place. Step 5: Tease the front section, pull it up and back as shown, twist ends, and pin into braid. Step 6: Hairspray it like hell.
